The Turnip

Grandfather planted a turnip. He went to pull it up and took hold of the turnip. He pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out!

Grandfather called Grandmother. Grandmother held on to Grandfather, Grandfather held on to the turnip; they pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out!

Granddaughter came. Granddaughter held on to Grandmother, Grandmother held on to Grandfather, Grandfather held on to the turnip; they pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out!

A female dog came. The female dog held on to Granddaughter, Granddaughter held on to Grandmother, Grandmother held on to Grandfather, Grandfather held on to the turnip; they pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out!

A leg(?) came. The leg held on to the female dog, the female dog held on to Granddaughter, Granddaughter held on to Grandmother, Grandmother held on to Grandfather, Grandfather held on to the turnip; they pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out!

A second leg came. The second leg held on to the first leg, the first leg held on to the female dog, the female dog held on to Granddaughter, Granddaughter held on to Grandmother, Grandmother held on to Grandfather, Grandfather held on to the turnip; they pulled and pulled, but could not pull it out! (And so on, up to the fifth leg.)

The fifth leg came. Five legs held on to four legs, four legs held on to three legs, three legs held on to two legs, two legs held on to one leg, one leg held on to the female dog, the female dog held on to Granddaughter, Granddaughter held on to Grandmother, Grandmother held on to Grandfather, Grandfather held on to the turnip; they pulled and pulled—and pulled out the turnip!
